The President’s Address
Welcome to the Leicester University Law Society (LULS), a community founded on ambition, opportunity, and mutual support!
My name is Thomas Wyatt, and I am honoured to serve as President for the 2026–2027 academic year. Together with an exceptional committee, I am excited to build on the Society’s success and introduce new opportunities that will enhance both the professional and personal development of our members.
LULS has been at the heart of my university experience. From serving as a First-Year Representative and Secretary to now holding the position of President, I have seen first-hand the impact that the Society can have. Through mooting competitions, committee roles, and representing the University externally, I have developed skills, confidence, and friendships that have shaped my time at Leicester. These experiences have reinforced the value of a society that encourages students not only to succeed individually, but to support one another’s growth.
As a member of LULS, you will have access to a wide range of opportunities. Whether your interests lie in competitions, careers, commercial awareness, sports, social events, or networking with legal professionals, there is something for everyone. This year, I am particularly pleased to announce the launch of the Leicester Law Review, a new student-led publication that will provide an additional platform for academic writing. Through a peer-review process, students will have the opportunity to publish high-quality legal research and contribute to academic discussion within the School of Law.
Inclusivity and wellbeing remain central to everything we do. University can be both exciting and challenging, and no one should feel they have to navigate it alone. Our Mentoring Scheme and Formal Workwear Bursary Scheme continue to provide meaningful support to students, and I am delighted that we will be expanding these initiatives during the year ahead.
I encourage every member to get involved, explore new opportunities, and make the most of everything LULS has to offer. I look forward to welcoming both new and returning students and seeing our community continue to thrive.

Adam Wagner KC, Honorary Chairperson 2026-2027
The Honorary Chairperson: Adam Wagner KC
Adam Wagner is a leading barrister specialising in human rights, public, constitutional and international law. He has acted in some of the most significant public law and human rights cases of recent years, particularly those concerning the right to protest, freedom of expression, government accountability and constitutional issues of high political sensitivity.
His practice includes leading human rights and public law challenges, actions against the police, international human rights litigation and politically sensitive public inquiries and inquests. He has played a prominent role in legal challenges arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, including cases concerning protest rights, police powers, hotel quarantine, immigration detention and the protection of vulnerable individuals. He also regularly acts in international law matters, including cases concerning the European Court of Human Rights and the UK's Overseas Territories.
Alongside his practice, Adam is a prominent advocate and educator in human rights. He founded and chairs the human rights education charity EachOther, founded the UK Human Rights Blog, has advised parliamentary committees on human rights and regularly contributes to public and academic debate through writing, broadcasting and speaking engagements.
His contribution to human rights and the rule of law has received national recognition. His accolades include the 2025 Advocate International Pro Bono Barrister of the Year Award, the 2025 Hostage Aid Worldwide 'Breaking the Chain' Award, the 2024 Halsbury's Award for the Rule of Law and an honorary doctorate from the University of Law. He was also a Visiting Professor of Law at Goldsmiths University from 2019 to 2025.
Adam's distinguished practice, commitment to public education and advocacy for human rights and civil liberties make him an exceptional figure in the legal community and an inspiration for our Members.

Our Core Focus Areas
Our representatives for careers ensure that there is a broad range of support available. This takes the form of alerts and updates on application deadlines, but also tailored programmes for each route: The Bar, SEQ, or beyond.
With a range of competitions available to our members from Client Negotiations, Mock Trials, and Mediation, to Mooting, and Commercial Awareness, our directors keep busy procuring and improving the opportunities available.
Our Football and Netball teams hold weekly training sessions catering to all experience levels, ensuring that every member feels welcome, supported, and able to participate regardless of their sporting background.
Recognising the importance of balance and wellbeing, the Social and Events Coordinators deliver a diverse programme of events throughout the year designed to foster a strong and inclusive community within LULS.
