Mooting

As the 2026/2027 Directors of Mooting, Elise & Jorja aim to highlight the exceptional opportunities mooting provides. Taking part in mooting competitions hones legal research, deepens understanding of the law, and strengthens advocacy skills, all while fostering teamwork. Beyond academics, mooting enables networking with legal professionals, participation in internal and external competitions, and the formation of lasting friendships with like-minded students.

This year the directors are promoting the benefits of mooting not only for legal careers but also for academic development, as it enables participants to apply course material and expand their knowledge. Advocacy is fundamental to both solicitors and barristers, and mooting provides an excellent opportunity to refine those skills. The Society welcomes mooters of all abilities - whether experienced or taking part for the first time - and participation is open to students outside of law programmes. Please take a look at our Mooting Instagram Page for announcements about competition sign-ups and the dates of semi-finals and finals, which are open for students to attend and observe.

Our Facilities

The Sir Nicholas Green Moot Court

This was opened in 2019 in recognition of alumni Sir Nicholas Green QC after his many years of support and affiliation with LULS. It has a judging bench and chairs, advocate panels, a large spectator gallery area and projectors.

Mooting is the only extra-curricular activity within LULS to have its own dedicated facility, and we hold our events such as semi-finals, finals, and inter-university moots here.

The Council Chambers

These are a set of beautiful and elegant rooms which have been host to many of our largest mooting competitions in the past. The main chamber is comprised of a very large spectator area, as well as an extended judging bench. There are also conference, meeting and lounging rooms.
